Tibet 20MW Solar Power Station Operational

LHASA, May 11, 2012 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) — Tibet Yangbajing 20MW solar power station built by China Longyuan Power Group Corporation Ltd. (sehk:0916) was officially put into operation on May 10.

Longyuan Yangbajing 20MW solar power station is the first large on-grid solar power station built in Tibet. Earlier, China Guodian Corporation built and put Yangbajing 10MW solar power station and 2MW thermal power station into operation. Totally costing CNY 450 million, the 20MW solar power station is Phase-II of Longyuan Tibet Yangbajing project and on-grid power is 37.78 million kilowatt hours in the first year. The project can save 12,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emission by 32,600 tons per year.

Wu Yingjie, secretary of Tibet Party committee and vice chairman of local standing committee, says that due to lack of coal and oil in Tibet energy system, Longyuan Yangbajing 20MW solar power station fully makes use of local clean and rich solar energy. Upon operation, this new power station will ease intense power supply in the middle of Tibet and boost local economic development.
